Scanning in the CSB

There is the Epson Expression 636 color scanner w/transparancy adapter on MASON and the UMAX 1200S on MUTZU available for scanning. Scans may be acquired from one of three methods based on your preference and the desired output. If you wish to scan an image for use as a JPEG, GIF, or TIF for example, use Photoshop or Canvas. If you wish to have a PDF file or perform OCR on a document, use Acrobat Exchange or Omnipage (Mason only).

Directions for Scanning with Photoshop:

  1. Run Photoshop from the START menu or the toolbar in the top right of the screen.
  2. From the File menu, select Import » TWAIN_32...
  3. This will bring up the general scanning screen seen with all programs

Directions for Scanning with Canvas:

  1. Run Canvas from the START menu or the toolbar in the top right of the screen.
  2. From the Image menu, select Acquire » TWAIN_Acquire
  3. This will bring up the general scanning screen seen with all programs

Directions for Scanning with Acrobat Exchange:

  1. Run Acrobat Exchange from the START menu or the toolbar in the top right of the screen.
  2. From the File menu, select Scan
  3. Click the Scan button from the pop-up window
  4. This will bring up the general scanning screen seen with all programs

General Scanning Screen Instructions :

  1. Place your document on the scanner and close the cover
  2. Make sure the "reflective document" mat is in place.
  3. Select "Flatbed" from "Document Source".
  4. Select the proper image type and destination from the pull-down menus based on the use of the image and where it will be displayed. This will automatically adjust the resolution to the proper setting. It is not recommended that you change the resolution from this setting.
  5. Preview your image by pressing the Page button under the Preview menu.
  6. Crop the image to the area you wish to scan by drawing a box around the desired area in the preview window.
  7. Press the Scan button to acquire the image.

Transparent Media on EPSON 636 (i.e. transparencies, slides, gels, etc)

  1. Place your document on the scanner and close the cover
  2. Make sure the "reflective document" mat is removed.
  3. Select "TPU for Positive Film" from "Document Source".
  4. Select the proper image type and destination from the pull-down menus based on the use of the image and where it will be displayed. This will automatically adjust the resolution to the proper setting. It is not recommended that you change the resolution from this setting.
  5. Preview your image by pressing the Page button under the Preview menu.
  6. Crop the image to the area you wish to scan by drawing a box around the desired area in the preview window.
  7. Press the Scan button to acquire the image.
  8. Replace the "reflective document mat"
