Required steps to set up Windows computers on the CSB network

Windows XP Home Edition

Windows XP Home Edition does some obnoxious stuff onthe network which should be disabled for use on the CSB network.

WXP/HE tries to configure Universal PnP devices on the network. This is not appropriate in the CSB environment. To disable this anti-social behavior, perform the following steps. Seek help from the staff if these instructions are not clear.
- Run regedit
- Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Descend through: Software -> Microsoft -> DirectPlayNATHelp -> DPNHUPnP
- Highlight DPNHUPnp; At top, select Edit->New->DWORD_value
- Set the name to UPnPMode; value to 2.
- Exit; reboot your computer
