The image is a ribbons drawing of ribonuclease-S. This was the first protein structure determined at Yale and the third protein structure determined by X-ray diffraction of crystals after myoglobin and lysozyme.
The effort to solve the ribonuclease-S structure was spearheaded by Hal Wyckoff and Fred Richards (Wyckoff, H.W. Hardman, K.D., Allewell N.M., Inagami, T., Johnson, L.N. Richards, F.M. (1967) J. Biol. Chem. 242:3984-3988).
The ribbons drawing was made with the program, RIBBONS, by M. Carson. Design of the logo by J.J.
Many other molecular graphic programs are available to display structural molecular models.
