Xerox C55 Color Laser Printer - Rainbow

This laser printer is available to all the SGI and DEC workstations and any PC or Mac computers on the private network. The maximum output is 600dpi.

Any laser printer paper, laser glossy paper or laser transparencies (Stockroom #780320) can be used in this printer. Do not use InkJet transparencies in this printer!
(You should order your own glossy paper and transparency supplies for the color printers. The ordering information is available.)

When printing, only send your job ONCE since the printer needs to warm up to print the 1st page. After that, pirinting should be faster.

Printing from the NT Workstations:

• Select the Xerox C55 Docuprint PS from the pull-down menu.
• Be sure to adjust the "Printer Setup" for media type (e.g. transparencies).

Printing from the Macs:

• Select the Docuprint C55mp icon from the chooser menu
• Click on "rainbow" and exit the chooser

Printing from the SGIs/DECs

• lp -dcolorlaser filename where filename is a postscript file
• If you want to print transparencies from a UNIX machine see a CSB staff person about adjusting the printer.

If your NT or Macintosh computer is on the private network and you wish to print to the color laser printer, follow these directions.

Setting up a NT Workstation:

1. Install TCP/IP printing protocol from Service Pack 3
2. Obtain the postscript drivers for the printer from system administrators or download from here to a temp directory
3. Run the file you downloaded to uncompress the files
4. Select "Add Printer" from the Printers folder
5. Click "Add Port"
6. Choose "LPR Port" and then click "New Port"
7. Enter 192.168.6,242 for the address and rainbow for the queue
8. Choose have disk when prompted for the driver and go to the directory with the driver was installed
9. Print a test page

Setting up a Macintosh Computer:

1. Obtain the postscript drivers for the printer from system administrators or download from here to a temp directory
2. Run the downloaded file
3. Goto Chooser -> Docuprint C55mp in applecore and select rainbow
