The installation of ARP/wARP is straightforward.
- Install (or make sure you have installed) the
CCP4 suite [7](Version 3.5 or later,
CCP4 homepage
- Download the full ARP/wARP package arp_warp.tar.gz from the web page.
Reading this you have most likely already done so.
Unzip ('gunzip arp_warp.tar.gz') and untar ('tar xvf arp_warp.tar') it.
The distribution contains the following:
- src/: This directory includes several other subdirectories
with system specific binaries and source files for ARP/wARP .
We supply binaries for the Irix, Irix64, OSF1 and
Linux systems, which work to the best of our knowledge. Source files are provided for
most of the modules - the part of the work that is published and more or less done.
-
examples/: Two examples of ARP/wARP usage and an example script of running ARP/wARP in
combination with SHELXL [8].
The examples are:
- 1.
- Rubredoxin [9] , PDB [10] id code 8RXN
- 2.
- Leishmanolysin [11] , to improve the SIRAS map and then
auto-build (Thanks to P. Metcalf for diffraction data).
- doc/: Well, guess what ... if you are reading this,
most likely you already
know what was in there.
- Go to the ARP/wARP directory and type './install.sh'
- Add the two lines recommended by install.sh to your setup file .cshrc
- From this version on, you can have multiple operating system installation
in the same basic directory structure. The setup lines will then recognise in what
type of machine you logged in each time and set you up to use the correct binaries.
To create these you have to run the ./install.sh script from each operating
system you plan to use.
- To run jobs on remote processors the remote shell, rsh, must be allowed.
This is normally the case
(for details see man pages for rsh and rhosts and consult your system manager). In your
home directory create (or edit) the .rhosts file to say which computers you would like to
use with which username. The file could look something like this:
folk.embl-grenoble.fr perrakis
reggae.embl-grenoble.fr perrakis
classic.embl-grenoble.fr perrakis
salsa.embl-grenoble.fr perrakis
country.embl-grenoble.fr perrakis
bebop.embl-grenoble.fr perrakis
During arp_warp_setup.sh, when you set the computer names make sure that they are reported 'OK'.
If this is not the case check that computers share the same home directory and the
.rhosts file is correct.
If you have multiple systems installations you can distribute jobs between
heterogeneous networks of Linux, Irix and OSF boxes - at least in principle!
In principle you should now be ready to run ARP/wARP
We recommend trying to get the
two test examples going (look at the README files in the subdirectories of examples/).
If things still don't work please consult
your system manager.
If problems still remain, please contact the originators via the
ARP/wARP Email Bulletin Board.
