Uppsala Software News @ 961023 ****************************** * IRIX 6.2 ********** I have compiled all my programs *EXCEPT RAVE* (and MAPROP, but nobody will miss it) under Irix 6.2. The executables are available as usual from pub/gerard/* on the ftp server. The files have identifier "_irix6" (e.g., voidoo_irix6.dirtar.Z), and the executables are prefixed with "6d_". I have also updated the *_README files a bit in these directories. RAVE executables (including ESSENS) will follow later; check the O-info list. * MAPMAN Version 4.6.2 ******** Oops - map statistics now do get updated with the MI, CO and AD commands (thanks to Pete Dunten for finding this buglet). * LSQMAN Version 4.7.3 ******** The PHipsi command now also prints the correlation coefficient between the PHI angles of both chains and between the PSI angles of both chains. Some examples to get a feel for normal and poor values (using the same models as in Acta Cryst D52, 842-857, 1996): - comparing 1CEL A and B gives 1.0, 1.0 (basically identical) - comparing 3SDP A and B gives 0.78, 0.68 (very poor) - comparing 3SDP A and 1CEL A (!) gives 0.90 (!), 0.62 - comparing 1LDN A and G gives 0.96, 0.99 (good) Note that by this criterion 3SDP molecule A is ~ equally "similar" to molecule B as to a completely different protein (1CEL) ... * MIXING IRIX 4, 5 & 6 ********************** If you have machines pre-5.3 and post-5.2, you may want to download the latest version of the "run" script (designed to execute Gerard's programs on any platform, without the user having to worry about directories or executable names). Ftp to rose, goto pub/gerard/scripts. In the same directory you'll find the "ono" script, which does the same for running O. Both scripts also help in a multi-platform environment, e.g. with SGIs, ESVs and Alphas. --cd
