The help menu. These options fire up a WWW browser (specified by the
SP_BROWSER environment variable) and reference the appropriate sections
of the on-line version of the manual. The environment variables
SPOCK, SP_HELP, and SP_HELP_PATH must also be set for this to
work properly. All of these variables except SPOCK are set in the
default Spockrc initialization script, so SPOCK is the only variable
users generally have to set. See §3 for details.
There is also a toggle button in this menu ``Show status line help'',
which controls the display of explanatory text for each menu item as the
cursor passes over it. Although helpful for novice users, advanced users
may want the extra space for graphics, so this option will allow users to
turn off the status line. This setting is saved in the .spockrc
preferences file §6.1.2, so it can become the
default if you prefer. The text for the status line help is stored in
$SPOCK/lib/status.hlp, so it can be customized if you prefer. If
you make substantial improvements, or translations to other languages,
please let me know, so that I can incorporate the file into later
releases.
