You may wish to have an email address of the form,

firstname.lastname@yale.edu

It is possible that you don't know your netid. You may not even know that you had a netid. 
According to the User Accounts Office, you can discover your netid by going to https://www-iisp1.its.yale.edu/netaccount/findnetid.htm.

Activating your NetID requires a PIN #, assigned to you by User Accounts for Central Campus Users. 
Students need to contact the User Accounts office located at 221 Whitney Avenue to get the PIN #.
You must bring your Yale University ID for verification.

Staff and Faculty may get their PIN #s from their DSPs or business managers or go in person with the University ID to 221 Whitney Avenue.

To change the password associated with your University NetID, go to:   https://www.yale.edu/passwd/
or to synchronize your password,  go to:   https://www.yale.edu/synchpw/  (you must know your current
password )

For more information on email at Yale, try http://www.yale.edu/email/, although it probably won't help you much if you use the Center for Structural Biology for your email.
