Configuring Netscape 4 for IMAP

This describes the procedure for creating a new email account. It was developed for Netscape 4.7, the version that runs on the SGI computers in the Core.

This information can also be used for editing an existing account.

If you are paranoid, you may want to back up your existing mail files before proceeding.

Launch the netscape email client.

• On the top menu bar, select Edit, then Preferences.
• On the left, under Mail and Newsgroups, choose Mail Servers.
• A box will appear, listing your existing incoming mail servers. If you are not already using IMAP, you must delete the server listed in the box at the top. Highlight the server (usually Movemail) and press delete to the right.
• Press Add. A pop-up window should appear.
• Under the General tab, change server type to IMAP. Set server name to imap.csb.yale.edu. Set User Name to the login name you use for the CSB Core. You should NOT check Remember Password.
• Click the IMAP tab at the top of the pop-up window. Select Use secure connection (SSL). You can configure the other options here as you please.
• Click <OK> at the lower-left of the pop-up.
• Click <OK> at the lower-left of the Preferences window.
