Configuring Netscape 6 for IMAP

This describes the procedure for creating a new email account. The information can also be used for editing an existing account.

Launch the netscape email client. Choose Create New Account. You will be presented with a series of screens in the account wizard:

1. Choose ISP or email Provider; click <next>.;
2. Enter your name and email address. You address is $user@mail.csb.yale.edu, where $user is your username for logging into the CSB Core computers. You can also use an alias if you have it set up, for example, firstname.lastname@yale.edu. click <next>.;
3. Select IMAP. For server name, enter imap.csb.yale.edu. click <next>.;
4. For username, enter the name you use to login to the Core systems. click <next>.;
5. For account name, you can accept the default, which is your email address. However, you can put in anything you want -- it doesn't matter. click <next>.; click <finish >.;

There is still more to do.

• In the main area of the display, select View Settings for This Account
• On the left side of the display, select the account you have just created.
• On the left, under your account, select select server settings.
• In the main area, select use secure connection. Then click OK.

And one last step:

• In the main area of the display, select View Settings for This Account
• On the left side of the display, select Outgoing server.
• Set the server to mail.csb.yale.edu. Then click OK.

There are many personal preferences you can set for your account. But you won't be able to read about them here.
