Users Guide for Configuring Pine to use IMAP
Due to overwhelming popular demand we have been forced (kicking and screaming) to support the use of the PINE email client with our backend IMAP email server system. Since our backend system will only accept encrypted sessions the PINE version we had needed to be upgraded and SSL support needed to be added during the building process.
PINE configuration options which must be added/modified:
smtp-server=mail.csb.yale.edu
This is our outgoing mail server all outgoing mail is processed by this
system only. If you are using PINE on your PC at home to access your
mail here you must set this to your ISP's outgoing mail server as our mail
server will see your PC on a foreign network and will not allow relaying
of mail. The only exception to this is if you are using a dial-up
Yale PPP account.
inbox-path={imap.csb.yale.edu/ssl/novalidate-cert} This tells PINE the name of the server, that ssl is mandatory, and to ignore the fact that the imap server certificate is self signed.
folder-collections=[CSBimap] This allows you to save messages back to the CSBimap directory in your home directory rather than leave them all in you Inbox. This directory is reachable by any client which supports the IMAP protocol.
Status of installation:
2003.04.09 PINE has been installed and tested on SGI IRIX systems.
2003.04.10 PINE has been installed and tested on Linux systems.
2003.04.10 PINE has been installed and tested on DEC/Compaq/HP
ALPHA systems running 5.0 and above.
There is a PC PINE version available at Washington University Pine Information Center .
If you have any problems or questions it is probably best to address
them to David Keller (kelleratmaildotcsbdotyaledotedu)
though I am sure any one of the staff would enjoy answering your questions.
