A server sits inside the firewall, with the name (or DNS alias) mail.csb.core. It is accessed through the firewall via a tunnel from mail.csb.yale.edu.
The alias file /etc/postfix/aliases is divided into sections.
Users who receive their email locally will not have an entry in the alias file.
When a new CSB account is added the user will provide his/her Yale (or other outside) email address, and the alias will be added to /etc/postfix/aliases on mail.csb.core, amd newaliases will be run.
When a CSB account is closed, the user's alias will be moved to the active alumni section (if a forwarding address is available) or to the bitbucket alumni section.
At irregular intervals, aliases that have passed their expiration date will be moved to the bitbucket section.
The outgoing email server will accept mail only from within the core, or specific individual hosts/users. It should rewrite headers so that mail appears to come from (user@mail.csb.yale.edu? of 1st.last@yale.edu).
