This section describes the major filesystems you will encounter on the CSB Unix systems. For information on policy regarding use of these filesystems, see CSB Unix Filesystems -- Policy. For suggestions for safe procedures, see CSB Unix Filesystems -- Practical Guidelines.
/sgi/people (6GB) -- This will hold the SGI home directories for each core user, and serve as the main user data repository. It will be mounted on all core Unix machines. Each user will be given a quota of disk space, currently set to 100MB. Users are urged to migrate inactive files to optical disk or tape. When the filesystem is filled to 80% of capacity, a notice will be sent out and all quotas will be reduced. This filesystem will be placed on a RAID-5 disk array, so should be safe from hardware failure. It will be backed up weekly and archived quarterly.
/sgi/frames (8GB ) -- Exclusively for area detector raw data and associated files. Will be mounted on all Core unix systems. Should be used for files being processed on the SGI cluster (as opposed to csbhis). Files will be deleted 7 days after being placed on the disk.
/csbhis/frames (6GB) and /sgi/images/ (8GB) -- Exclusively for area detector raw data and associated files. Will be mounted on all Core unix systems. Should be used for files being processed on Csbhis (as opposed to the SGI cluster). Files will be deleted 7 days after being placed on the disk.
/macsci/frames, R-axis frames disk, etc -- For storage of area detector data as it is being collected. All raw and reduced data must be removed within 5 days of creation. Setup files may be kept for the life of your project (but should be duplicated elsewhere).
On /macsci/frames, all user data should be kept in /frames/macuser/...; Any data that needs to be kept permanently (and only such data) should be stored in /frames/error, /frames/test, /frames/lyso, etc.
/sgi/temp (3GB) -- temporary storage space residing on the SGI cluster, but mounted on all core unix machines. For any temporary storage except area detector images. Files will be deleted 7 days after being placed on the disk.
/sgi/local -- programs and data local to SGI machines or used by the entire cluster.
/sgi/clix -- Clix, Cambridge Database, GRID, PDB database. Only on SGI cluster.
/sgi/group -- Major projects under development
/sgi/xtal -- Major crystallographic programs. (Obsolete).
