This procedure will archive to DVDR or CDR all the data in a directory and its subdirectories. If necessary, the procedure will break the data up over several CDRs or DVDRs.
At present, this procedure runs from Core user-area linux workstations. (For system backups, it will also work from ds1 and ds2). It will work if you remotely log on to those workstations.
To get started, type:
setup burndvd
You will be given instructions on how to proceed for each of the
following choices.
| Archiving crystallographic data | Archiving generic data | Archiving filesystem images |
|---|---|---|
| Allows for printing information about the data in a standard format on the media's label. | Setup is quicker and simpler (compared with crystallographic archiving); prints minimal data on media labels. This method provides easiest access to archived data, but it may fail if you have long or unusual filenames. 2007.04.18 -- status is operational. | Preserve more accurate representation of original filesystem. Will work when the generic method does not. Slower. Can only be used by system staff. |
