This is a draft proposal subject to revision, and probably nonsense.
We will define a project as the collection of steps necessary to back up to DVD a directory or series of related directories. Each individual DVD is a separate job.
Each job submitted from a linux client to the Rimage robot will have a unique ID. This will be used for what the Rimage server calls the OrderID. The ID will be of the form name-date-seq. Name will be a 1-word identifier, usually the name of the project being archived. Date is in the form YYYYMMDD-hhmmss. Seq is the 2-digit sequence number of the disk to be burned. I.e, each job is a single disc, so this allows up to 99 discs to be sequenced.
So a full OrderID might be ribsite3-20051221-132409-03.
Note that the timestamp should probably be fixed for the entire sequence of discs, referring to the time the whole project was initiated.
The Rimage server also requires a clientID. Although they suggest something more complex, it seems adequate to me if we simply use the short form of the client hostname. (It might even make sense to use the username).
The Rimage server includes an ftp server, whose home directory is D:\images. For each project, we should create a subdirectory, consisting of the OrderID (without the sequence number). All ISO images, merge text files, and any other supporting files should be kept there. In that directory, for each DVD in the project, there will be one ISO file of the form name-date-seq.iso and one merge file of the form name-date-seq.txt.
Label .btw files created by CD Designer (which include merge fields that will be filled in by the merge files) will be kept in D:\images\labels, to allow easy backup via ftp.
(obsolete) Label BTW files are on elijah in D:\images\labels. Details are in labels.html.
Logs will be kept in /srv/local/backup/DVD/logs. Each project will have a detailed log of the form projectname.log.
There will be a cumulative log file of every xrystallographic data job submitted to the system: xtal_cumulative.log. It will be backed up daily in daily/xtal_cumulative.yyyymmdd.log; daily/ will be cleaned up occasionally.
