Querying and setting media type

The Rimage suports mediat types DVDR and CDR. In the future, we will support DVDR-2D.

The Rimage server must be set to use the correct media type.

Querying the media type

To find out what it is set for, try: 
    alias media "java -cp /srv/local/backup/java/clientprogs mediaget"
    mediaget
It will return either DVDR or CDR.

Setting the media type

Find a member of the CSB staff and give them the following instructions/

To set the media type, you must, on elijah:

  1. Pause the production server
  2. Set media type
  3. Resume the production server
  4. From the server manager, disconnect from the server
  5. Reconnect to the server
A program stest6 has been roughed out to do this (the media type is the single command-line argument). But there is a problem.

After the first time you go through the pause/resume cycle, the next attempt to pause provokes the error: Another request being processed must complete first. This happens regardless of whether the pause/resume was performed from a client-side java app, or from the server manager on elijah.

The situation can be cleared up by using the server manager on elijah to disconnect from, then connect to the server.

We can verify the correct media from the client-side app. But until this problem is cleared up, there is no point in having the client attempt to set the media type -- rather, if there is a mismatch, the client appshould fail with a warning explanation.
